Crystal Symphony visits Loreto on April 5 2011. and 16 Dec. 2011. cruises the waters of the Americas. In early 2011 she circumnavigates South America (and touches Antarctica), followed by two tours of Panama and the Caribbean. In mid-March she crosses Panama to Los Angeles for cruises of the Mexican Riviera and Hawaii. In the northern summer Symphony runs 12-night cruises out of San Francisco to the fjord coast line of Canada and Alaska. In late August 2011 the ship relocates to the US East Coast and runs from New York via the Gulf of St. Lawrence to Montreal. In late October Symphony returns to the Caribbean and the Mexican Riviera. This vessel receives a Berlitz rating of five stars because of its fine facilities, service and crew. Crystal ships are numbered 1 and 2 in the world’s “Top Mid-size Ships”. The ship’s atmosphere creates a sense of community between passengers and crew. All cabins have an outside view, and are boutique-hotel style with queen beds converting to two singles. Each cabin has a flat-screen television, DVD player (DVDs are free from the library) and fridge with complimentary soft drinks and bottled water. Suites come with butlers and course-by-course meals. Penthouse accommodations come with marble bathrooms and whirlpool baths with separate showers.
Launched in 1995 and having its third refurbishment in 2009, Crystal Symphony at 51,000 GT carries 940 passengers. Dining is a superb experience, with varied themed menus at the Restaurant, with its fixed dining times and assigned tablemates. For casual dining, Crystal Symphony’s Lido is the ship-top buffet; Silk Road (Asian) and Valentino at Prego (Northern Italian) are the specialty dining venues. Outside meal times are pool-side buffets and afternoon tea in the ship’s Palm Court. Crystal Plaza is Crystal Symphony’s central, two-story atrium, with its Crystal Cove lounge for people-watching. Then there’s the library and Internet centre. Cruises include many sea days, and these can be filled with rich entertainment and activities. Between the Galaxy Lounge (with each evening’s theatrical performance) and the Luxe nightclub, is the casino. For fitness there are games and walking programs, and two pools. Oosterdam sails from San Diego for 7-night cruises of the Mexican Riviera, visiting three ports. Two April cruises take a longer cruise into the Sea of Cortez. In early May she relocates to Seattle, and offers 7-night cruises along the Canadian-Alaskan fjords. Then in late October 2011 Oosterdam returns to San Diego. From there 7-night cruises visit the Mexican Riviera, and 14-night cruises circle the Hawaiian islands, through early 2012. Some cruises in March 2012 depart from Vancouver. Holland America Line’s Signature of Excellence initiative for this ship focuses on five areas: space and elegance; sophisticated dining; gracious, unobtrusive service; extensive enrichment programs; and interesting destinations. It has plenty of places on deck for solitude, and inside an extensive library, museum-quality paintings, and a magnificent Waterford crystal globe suspended in the three-deck atrium. Four elegant exterior glass elevators look out over the sea. Enrichment and entertainment by day include its demo kitchen and wine tasting, and a favourite focal point is the Explorations Café. The Microsoft Digital workshops will teach you to make a DVD of your trip or create your own web page or blog. Evening entertainment includes eight bars, a disco, and shows in the Vista Lounge.
